I currently am working as a DoD Contractor and hold an active Secret clearance.
I have been invited to interview for a DoD Civilian position (aka. Federal employee) which requires a clearance also at the Secret level. Will my current clearance, based on a NACLC, transfer over? Or will a new eQIP and background investigation be initiated? I guess the question is: Is a Secret clearance for a DoD contractor the same as one needed by a DoD civilian? Dear GovWorks10,
first, best wishes on your upcoming interview for a federal position.
I wish to clarify a little on your question.
A NACLC (National Agency Checks, with Local agency checks & Credit) is for a Secret level clearance for both military folks & Govt contractors.
When a (new) civilian federal employee is required to have a Secret level security clearance, they must undergo a ANACI investigation.
ANACI = Access National Agency Check and Inquiries.
ANACI includes the components of a NACLC, plus written inquiries to current + past employers, schools and references covering the past 5 years.
If the components of your (now) Secret are current, then they "may" be used (tranferred) in the new ANACI.
But it is best to check with your new (gaining) federal agency folks.

Jim,
So if I start as a DoD Civilian, they might just upgrade the NACLC to an ANACI? hopefully they won't do the entire BI from scratch. |

You will need an ANACI. It should not take long though.
