I am sitting here recuping from a bout of pneumonia - never had a cold, flu or smoked - but doing a lot of thinking - I have 40 years in - Dr would love to see me retire - especially because it is so stressful -
but the day I retire I loose my husbands social security - and that is scary - I had 39 quarters of my own social security - got so MANY MANY different answers - went to our Senator, with the basic simple question - is it worth it to work part time for one quarter to make up the 40.  Had conference call with SS rep. get the 40 quarters in no matter what - maybe a dinky amount but may be enough to sign up for Medicare B - - so now will continue deciding about going to Basic BC or keep Standard - all those charges from different Doctors at the hospital - - gives one a headache - Wacko

It all depends on your life span, the gvernment accountants have studied the actuary tables and have set it up so it's likely to be a wash - you get more money but over a shorter time span.  If you think you'll out-run the actuary tables you can come out a winner.  I, however, have other priorities.  Since what I will get at thirty years is sufficient for my needs I will be happy to take up other pursuits.  If you enjoy your job you may feel differently.  You also must consider that we are looking at diminishing health and vitality over our span of remaining years.  Let us hope you are strong and healthy enough to enjoy your payback.

Angel1955 - I have 43 quarters from private industry.  My yearly SSA statement estimates $402 /month @age 62 - so with WEP, I am figuring about $200/month.  Not much, but it's a free deal none-the-less.  Get that last quarter in (I think you only need to earn about $1200), even if part-time at McDonalds or Walmart.  Good luck.
