Thanks for that info but the operative word is should not will.

Should or will is for the person using the
Dentist to ask questions before they commit
themselves, and if you are concerned about prices
and out of pocket you do need to take some
responsibility for asking questions.........
trying to help the person asking questions and he
needs to ask from the proper parties, that is his
dentis and he has a # for Metro Life, they are rather quick at answering.

I have the Metlife supplemental, with GEHA as my primary. I have had really good luck with them. My dentist files all my paperwork, I never had too. Could this be part of the problem with response time? I don't know.
Also my dentist put in porcelain crowns, not amalgam, and no issues with Metlife. Talking about 8 of them so far. ((Military dentists did a lousy job for me over the years and now I have to pay for it.))

That is what my dentists does, he filed all the paperwork, they know what each plan will pay, if
the plans have any questions, they go directly
to the Dentist not to me, no problems so far.

Last Year I investigated coverage that MetLife provided for dental implants. I was comfortable with the response provided. I had three implants done last year, and I discovered that additional implants were needed this year. MetLife wants me to extract the three teeth and use a partial plate. This is clearly a decision to save cost. While I will have to pay for these expenses myself, I want MetLife punished for this deceitful practice. I will take this into legislative inquiry, but I want this stopped. Has anyone found the channel to get MetLife removed from BENEFEDS (Both Dental and Medical)? With the presence of MetLife in the medical insurance business, I'm not sure we would not be better off with SOCIALIZED MEDICINE!

I had three lower implants done in Hungary. Aetna covered 40% of the cost (although I went up against my $1200 ceiling, so I didn't receive full payment). I switched to MetLife due to the new implant coverage for 2009. The implants failed--probably due to design issues--and I needed 2 replacement crowns and one bridge for the third implant (which could not be salvaged). Imagine my surprise when MetLife issued a predetermination of benefits which capped my reimbursement at roughly $700, stating that they would only pay for a partial denture! I'm running away as fast as I can from them come next Open Season!! Mad

I pay extra for GEHA Connection Dental insurance and it has worked out well.

I use a dentist and periodontist who are quite busy even though they don't accept ANY dental insurance. These guys have fancy offices, top-knotch staff, and thriving practices.

I pay them for each service, get two receipts, then send one to GEHA. Reimbursement to me from GEHA does not cover all expenses, but it's quite generous. For me, it has been cost-effective.

There has never been an occasion where GEHA said that my dentist or periodontist recommended a treatment that was not needed. I think this says a lot.

I've had MetLife supplemental with BCBS for the last two years, but have only had routine cleanings with them and not had any problems. I've read several negative experiences with them when it comes to anything other than routine cleanings, but most of the posts are older. Are people still having problems with MetLife? If so, are there any dental plans people are happier with?
