I have been employed as a contractor on Fort Belvoir for two years. I have been informed that my position will be converted to a GS position in the near future.

Since they have to open the job up to the public AND military spouses who have non-competitive status, I will most likely lose my job.

I was filling in for a GS position for seven months in the main office when their Secretary quit last year and DID NOT EVEN MAKE THE LIST AFTER DOING THE JOB FOR SEVEN MONTHS!

The first military spouse stayed for 2 months and quit. So I had to go back for three more months until they hire yet ANOTHER MILITARY SPOUSE!

If they hire another military spouse for MY job, will VA Unemployment pay for me to go to school since I lost my job through no fault of my own? What type of Unemployement benefits can I get?

It is only an administrative assistant job, but I REALLY need my health benefits since I need to have a spinal surgery.

Who can I contact for help with this?

Did they pay you on a 1099 or W2?  You sound like an employee to me. Perhaps a temporary employee but an employee nonetheless.

Then Navy is having the opposite problem. They are converting thousands of contractor jobs to government positions and have received special authorization to non-competively transition the contractors. Of course, the head shed is making sure their friends are hired on as contractors knowing they will be transferred to government within the next 1-2 years and nobody can say they hired their buddy.
